CenterPoint Community groups are intentionally different. We call these differences "distinctives". The following "distinctives make up the core of what we value and strive for:

• Strong ministry presence in the neighborhood - Our main purpose is to have a strong ministry presence in our local neighborhood by meeting people, discovering needs and meeting those needs in a wise and Christ-like manner. The ultimate goal is to share the Good News of Jesus with as many people as we can and helping them know more about our Savior.

• Emphasis on “being” the church rather than “doing” church - The Church consists of those that believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and live accordingly. Often times, the Church universal gets confused with a local congregation called "church". This confusion then develops into a mindset of attending a church and belonging to a church.
We believe that we are not called to "do" church or "go to " church but rather, we are called to "BE" the church in our daily, normal routines of life. This means living as good witnesses in all aspects of life and making things right when we don't live up to the standards that we find in scripture. It also means that we do not encourage participants to be spectators but actual participants in the ongoing ministries of each community group.

• No paid staff - Our structure does not provide for the payment of a professional Christian. Instead, each group is lead by the people that make up that grouping. Our Elders provide oversight for each group to accomplish what we call "Theological Quality Control" and each group has a trained facilitator that guides each meeting discussion time.

• No buildings - Because we meet in homes, we do not burden our people with the payment of mortgages, debt, utilities, and all the other expenses related to ownership of property. As a result, very little of our giving goes to pay for overhead. Instead, we focus on using the money giving to minister directly to people in our neighborhoods, community, and the world.

• Elder led - Our Elder Team provide oversight for every community group and provide guidance for all things theological, financial and spiritual. This group of men are painstakingly selected using the criteria for deacons and leaders found in the New Testament. All major decisions of the Elder Team require a unanimous agreement by all members of the Elder Team and each Elder is required to have an apprentice that will be ready to join the Elder Team when/if a new Elder is needed.
